"The Easterwoods" Page 148. 11/3/00 Margaret Mitchell ... Enclisted in the Confederate Army at or near West Point, MS in March 1864. Was paroled at the close of the war near Gainesville, AL in May 1865...Exparte testimony of Thad Mosely to the state of TX in order for John C. Easterwood to receive a pension from the State of TX on 27 Feb, 1911. John C. Easterwood came to Company K, 8th MS Cavalry as a very yound man in the latter part of 1864 or early 1865. Was paroled and left for home when the war ended. Testimony from L. W. Anderson on 21 Feb 191 for the State of TX. John C. Easterwood states in this application of 23 Aug, 1913, that he is 67 years old, born in Lownes Co., MS. He further states that he was "at home on a furlough caused by sickness when the war came to a close on account of surrender of General Lee." "This was about the first of 1865 that I was sick and sent home." Company K was known as the Oktibbeha Plough Boys. Record #00000403, Extr #0012, Box #000232, Muster Records. John Calvin Easterwood died at the home of his daughter, Ada Easterwood Love, in Corsicana, TX.
