Note:   Have another interesting possibility for the spouseless Thomas b. 1793: The following data was obtained from Family History Center Film No. 1501463, Parish Register of Preston, Lancashire, England, 1825-1829, which appears to be either the registers of St. John Church in Preston, or perhaps a civil transcription of the church records. No explanation is given on the film. In the burial records for 1825, there is listed a "Betty Eastham of Fishergate", who died at the age of 31 and was buried on 26 May 1825. Then we find in the 1827 Register the record of Thomas Eastham, widower, of Preston Parish, marrying on 18 July 1827 Miss Elizabeth PRESTON, spinster, also of Preston Parish. It is this author's conjecture that this is our Thomas, which would explain the entry of the name PRESTON into the family. If this is the case, we need to learn: 1.The maiden name of the first Elizabeth "Betty" 2.Which woman was the mother of our Thomas 3.Whether or not there were other children, and if so, to which mother they belong.
  Does this connection sound likely to you? Unfortunately, the register does not give any parental names at all, and the witnesses don't give any clues, either. Blessings, Sue
  In the registers of St. John, Preston, Lancs, it shows that Thomas Eastham was first married to Betty Preston, who died (apparently from child birth complications) in May 1825 at the age of 31, after having presented Thomas with seven children between 1813 and 1825. Somehow Thomas managed to care for those children for two years before he married again. In 1827, two years after Betty died, Thomas married Elizabeth Preston (believe it or not!), with whom he had four more children. Betty's children: Jane Eastham, b. about Sept 1813 (her mom and dad had only married in June of 1813 . . . :>) Isabella Eastham, b. about May 1816 Mary Eastham, b. about July 1817 Hannah Eastham, b. about May 1819 Elizabeth Eastham, b. about April 1821 Richard Eastham, b. about March 1823 Thomas Eastham, b. about May 1825, died July 1831
