a. Note:   #314 For many years, deacon of the Free Baptist Church of Great Island or East Harpswell, ME. Lived on the Eastman homestead for 75 years the nwent to Bath and died. He was a successful sea captain and commenced to follow the sea at 13 years. Was wrecked 3 times, once on the coast of Maine where his brother Nathaniel died. James was called "Sampson Eastman' because of his strength; he could carry a barrel of flouron his shoulder from the shore to his house 3/4 mile away.
  1880 census has him born 1792 as a retired farmer in Ward 7 of Bath, ME.
