a. Note:   #367 Spring 1829 they and his widowed mother went to Royalton, OH which was a widlerness then. Left VT with a 1-horse chaise & a 2-horse team. 6 weeks in, they visited the Harveys (Lois' parents) in Whitehall, NY. They went on to Cleveland, OH where there were few houses and crossed the Cuyahoga creek on a raft where the viaduct was in 1899. They got to Parmalee where the road ended and the trees were marked for guidance. They left their wagons and went the final 12-15 miles on horseback. Friends went back with an ox team to retrieve their goods and wagons.
