a. Note:   Graduated Harvard College in 1771. Studied law 3 years with the celebrated Major Hawley (of Northampton). Was town delegate to the provincial congress of 1774 to that at Cambridge in 1775 & to the 3rd at Watertown. Was a representative to the general court in 1778, 1780 & 1783. Was the author of a large part of American Revolutionary papers. Governor Hancock, in 1781, appointed him justice of the peace.
