Note: #713 A student at Exeter, NH. Studied law with Honorable William K Atkinson of Dover, NH. Admitted to the bar in 1796. Practiced for 2 years at Deerfield, NH and went to Chester, NH in 1799. Was solicitor June 1808. Admitted to US courts in 1809. Attorney general in 1812 & resigned in 1815. Continued to practice law up to a few years before his death. Was appointed postmaster in April 1807 & resigned in 1839. His son Henry F succeeded him. He was also a farmer.
