Note: Obituary: ROBERT S. EASTMAN -- FAIRFIELD -- Robert Stevens Eastman, 77, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002. He was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Auburn, son of the late O. Roland and Myrtle (Stevens) Eastman. Bob graduated from Alfred High School in Alfred and served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the 110th Coast Artillery Battalion as a heavy machine gunner 605 in the European Theater of Operations. Bob was employed 31 years for Peters Gas & Oil Service as an oil truck driver in Fairfield. He was last employed in the public works in Fairfield as a truck driver for the town, retiring Dec. 31, 1989. Bob was an avid fisherman and loved to read. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jeannette (Estes) of Fairfield; two sons, Richard Lee Eastman and wife, Vicki, of Fairfield, and Robert Charles Eastman and fiancee, Kathy Poulin, of Clinton; four grandsons, Kevin Eastman and wife, Kathy, of Waterville, Jason Eastman and friend, Heidi Kaslauskas of Wayne, Adam Roy and Ronald Eastman of Vassalboro; two brothers, Donald Eastman and wife, Audrey, of Baltimore, Walter Eastman and wife, Norma, of Palm Bay, Fla.; seven sisters and families, Helen Starbird of Auburn, Evelyn and Wilfred Mahue of Canaan, Rose and Theron Micue Jr. of Clinton, Phyllis and George Corey of Waterville, Roberta and Freemont Brown of Connecticut, Florence and Chester Eames Jr. of Waterville, and Wilma Eastman of Waterville. He was predeceased by stepmother, Ella Eastman, and a sister, Gladys Bucknam. Arrangements are by Direct Cremation of Maine in Belfast. A burial will be held in the spring in the family plot at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield with a graveside prayer at the family's convenience to be announced.
