Note: Dr. Welch practiced for 25 years in Mt. Sterling, Oh. .The medical profession of Pittsburgh county has been depleted by the passing away of its venerable and honorary practitioners. Dr. A.J. Welch of McAlester expired September 7 at home of his daughter, Mrs. Allen Wicks of Tulsa, Ok. The Pittsburg County Medical Society hereby records the grief of it membership because of the death of this good man, who faithfully served his clientele in the practice of his profession fro many years. We desire that our expressions of respect for the departed brother in our profession and our expression of sympathy be sent to the daughters and sons, Mrs. W.M. Hawk of McAlester, Mrs. Allen Wicks of Tulsa, David H Welch, Independence Ks., and Carleton B. Welch, Bartlesville, Ok. In-as-much as obituary of Dr. Welch appeared in the September Journal of Oklahoma State Medical Association, further notice in this, our official publications, is not requested, but it is ordered that the following brief obituary be made a part of the permanent record of this society. Dr. Absolem J. Welch was born March 24, near New Port Ohio, and was past 88 years old at the time of his death, September 7, 1941. For many years after locating in McAlester, Dr. Welch was active in his practice and in community affairs. He had his early schooling at the old academy in London, Ohio, where he graduated from High School and started teaching to earn the professional schooling that followed, graduating from the Starling Medical School at Columbus, Ohio, whit honors in 1881. He did post-graduate work in the New York Medical School in 1893 and later took post-graduate course in the Illinois School of Therapretics at Chicago. Dr. Welch practiced 25 years at Mr. Sterling, Ohio, before coming to McAlester, Oklahoma, where his work was specialized and confined to office practice. Dr. Welch was a member of the Methodist Church. He concienciously served humanity in his profession for over 60 years and was beloved fro his generosity and interest in his fellowman. Dr. Welch was a Mason and Knight of Pythias. Burial services were held in the Methodist Church at Mr. Sterling, Ohio, and the body was interred for rest by the side of his wife in the family lot in Pleasant Cemetery in Mr. Sterling.
