a. Note:   Obituary run in McCurtain Gazette, Nov. 9. 1918: "FRANK AYERS - Of Boktuklo, Died in Training Camp at Deming, New Mexico. - Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Ayers of Boktuklo, received a message Wednesday from deming, New Mexico, announcing the death of their son, Frank, who was in training at that place. He had been sick for several days and Mrs. Ayers was in Idabel Wednesday enroute to Demin to attend his bedside when the message came stating that he was dead. Frank Ayers joined the colors the 22nd of October, this year, and was sent to Deming, New Mexico. Frank was an excellent soldier who was well liked by his officers and fellow soldiers and his untimely death is a source of genuine sorrow to all. His death occurred in line of duty and is no less honorable than had it occurred on the battlefield. He was a son of whom the parents can feel justly proud. Frank was 24 years of age and before entering the army, made his home with his parents at Boktuklo, where he has a large circle of friends who will be grieved to learn of his death. The remains will be shipped to Golden today (Saturday) and from there will be carried to Holly Creek where interment will be made Sunday. The deceased is survived by his parents, two brothers, L.A. Ayers, of Boktuklo, and P.A. Ayers, of Ashdown; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Spencer of Terrell, Texas and Mrs. Ada Hallbrook of Ringling, to mourn his death. The Gazette extends sympathy to the bereaved family."
