a. Note:   Robert Earl Redford, 1926 - 1997, Robert E. Redford, 71, died July 11,1997, in Puyallup, WA. He was born to Louise Redford (Atkins) and Lewis E. Redford in Warrensburg, MO, on May 2,1926, and moved to Puyallup in 1936. He graduated from Puyallup High School in 1944. On Nov. 25,1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Shiley Bailey, while on leave from his tour of duty during WW 11. Bob was an instructor at Bates Vocational school until his retirement in 1988. He was an avid skier throughout his life. He and Shirley founded the Pierce County Herald Ski School in 1963 and ran the school for 16 years. He was a registered ski instructor. Bob remained very active in his church and in the community. He was a member of the Jovita Baptist Church and served many years on the library board. He was a gentle, quiet unassuming man whose lap always held a family pet. His intelligence, humor and strength were the ties that held the family together. He filled his life and lives of others with laughter. He was respected by all that knew him and will be remembered with love.
 He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley; his daughter, Becky and her husband, Rich Zydek, Sumner, his 2 sons, Douglas and his wife, Nyla Redford, and Dennis, and his wife, Kathie Reford, both of Puyallup; his brother, Alex and his wife, Norma, Kirkland; and grandchildren, Rob, Jennifer, Denise, Eric, Heidi, Michael, Brett, Bailey, Zachery and Holly; nephews, nieces, and a host of friends.
 Private family inurnment will be held at Woodbine Cemetery. A memorial service will be held July17 at 2p.m. at the Jovita Baptist Church, 1120 114th Ave. E., Edgewood, WA. Remembrances may be made to Jovita Baptist Youth Fellowship or the American Heart Association. Arrangements were made by Powers Funeral Home of Puyallup. - Tacoma News Tribune - 15 July 1997
