I received this in answer to a query I put on Menard Co, IL page yesterday -- 18 Oct. 2000--in regard to Helen P. Poston's (b. 18 Sept 1921 by birth record but b. 18 Sept 1922 by death cert., d. 23 Apr. 1928 Petersburg, Menard Co, IL.) burial site in Rose Hill Cem, Petersburg, IL. I was wondering if she had a
tombstone. This is the reply I received this morning--Oct. 19, 2000:
"Edith, I do not live in Petersburg, but I do have a copy of "Rosehill Cemetery Records" by Jeanne Weaver. I have many relatives buried in this cemetery. Helen P. Poston was buried on free ground on May 4, 1928 so she probably died the day or 2 days before that. She probably does not have a
headstone, but you might like to contact Jeannne to see if she can help or knows someone that might. Call the Petersburg Observer at (217)632-2236 and ask for Jeanne Weaver. Hope this helps!!!! "
I (epb) called Jeanne Weaver (home phone was 217-632-3543 as she was not working today at the above phone number) on 19 Oct. 2000 and she looked up the record and said the dates for Helen P. Poston b. 18 Sept. 1922, d. 23 April 1928 and buried on free ground on May 4, 1928 and she does not have a headstone. She said "buried on free ground" referred to pauper area.
