a. Note:   eaman living in Brookhaven, Long Island, in the 1850 census. In August 1856, George A. Ebbets was a passenger on a sailboat in the South Bay off Long Island which capsized. He was credited with saving the lives of several of the passengers. They were from Bellport, just a few miles from Bookhaven. In July 1866, George Ebbets was convicted of burglary, 3rd degree, and sentenced to State Prison for one year.
