  THE THOMAS MUNSEY COOK FAMILY.
  THOMAS MUNSEY COOK was the son of WILLIAM COOKE, (1784-1853) and CATHERINE STEWART COOKE, (1790-1888.] His grandfather JOHN COOKE [1752-1832] of London, England. Revolutionary War Soldier, member of the Eighth Virginia Continentals, fought at Stony Point and Monmouth and was at Valley Forge. He was the first settler of Wyoming Co., [c1799]; Captain RALPH STEWART [1752-1835] was the second [c1800] settler.... {NOTE: Most of the Cook family dropped the 'e' from Cooke after the Civil War.} CATHERINE STEWART was the daughter of Capt. RALPH STEWART and MARY [CLAY] STEWART. CATHERINE's grandparents were MITCHELL CLAY AND PHOEBE [BELCHER] CLAY, first settlers of Mercer Co..
  THOMAS MUNSEY COOK married twice. His first wife was REBECCA SIZEMORE, the daughter of EDWARD B. SIZEMORE and ANNIE B. [BALDWIN] SIZEMORE. They lived in Wyoming Co. until her death [c 1845]. At that time he moved to Mercer Co. and married NANCY McComas.
  The children of his first marriage were: Sgt. EDWARD H., Union soldier, I Co., 7th Regiment, WV Volunteer Cavalry, who died in Andersonville Confederate Prison on 5 August 1864; JOHN NEWTON COOK, Union soldier, I Co. 7th Regiment, WV Volunteer Cavalry, later with Sherman's army. JOHN N. moved to Mercer Co.. GEORGE P. COOK, Union soldier, I Co., 7th Regiment, WV Volunteer Cavalry who died March 14, 1906. CALVIN COOK who moved to Mercer Co., married REBECCA BAILEY, daughter of JAMISON BAILEY. THOMAS BOYD COOK, Baptist minister, who moved to Mercer Co. in 1876, married LOUISA THOMPSON, the daughter of GORDON THOMPSON. NELLIE COOK married MELVIN JEWELL. WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON COOK, a state senator, Baptist minister, soldier, married MARY JANE COOPER. MARY MARINDA 'MINNIE' COOK married SEVEN times; ANNIE COOK married GUS BAILEY; JANE COOK married Rev. BEN F. COOPER.
  The children of THOMAS MUNCY COOK's marriage to NANCY McCOMAS were as follows: MARTHA 'POLLY' married WILLIAM HARLESS; JOSEPH OHLEY COOK married OLLIE McGRAW. Other two children were: RICHARD MADISON COOK and JAMES McCOMAS COOK. Many of THOMAS M. COOK's descendants still reside in Mercer Co..
