 !Obit of Myrtle: Myrtle Upshaw, 98, area pioneer Blackburn rites: Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Blackburn for on eof the area's oldest citizens, Mrs. Myrtle Upshaw, who was 98 on January 2. She passed away at Blackburn on Sunday, January 24, 1982. Born January 2, 1884 in Ellenwood, Arkansas, to Thomas King Brown and Margaret Brown, she was first married to Morgan Page who preceded her in death. She married Beryl Upshaw on October 22, 1908 and they came to Blackburn that year where she has lived since. He passed away on Jan. 8, 1960. Her father was a Presbyterian minister and she had been a member of the Methodist church since she was 16. Survivors include 3 grandchildren: Robert Upshaw of Blackburn plus Carolyn and Jim Page. also a half-sister, Johnnie McFarland of Okmulgee and a step-son Fred Upshaw of Blackburn and other relatives and friends. Two children by her first marriage preceded her in death. The Rev. Denis Dieker, pastor, officiated at the service at the Blackburn United Methodist church at 2 pm Tuesday, Jan 26, and interment was in the Blackburn cemetery under direction of the Poteet Funeral Home of Pawnee.
