  "This Thomas Turner who married Elizabeth Newland, daughter of Abraham Newland and Mary Crews, was our ancestor. He married Mar. 5, 1806, in Madison County, Kentucky. They with their family and slaves came to Missouri in 1829, and settled about six miles east of Columbia.The next year they built a brick house which stood over 100 years.The slaves burned the brick on the place, and cut and hewed all the timber used. Most of it was of walnut. I have been out to the place several times. In fact, several Turner Family Reunions were held there.Thomas and his wife were buried on the farm, the exact spot being unknown."
  According to Thomas Turner's Inventory of his Estate, he owned approximately 1350 acres of land; slaves, Will - 20 yrs old, Edmond-26 yrs old, Jack - 16 yrs old, Tobe, Tom, Minly - 65 yrs old,Julianne-20 yrs old, Julianne's boy child James Washington 4 weeks old, Eliza, Thomas Franklin 9 yrs old, negro girl 3 yrs old; numerous amounts of mares, colts, fillies, mules, cows, calves, pigs, hogs; 16 haystacks, corn fields, 8 acres of wheat, 21 acres of oats, 20 acres of corn, 25 acres of meadow.
