a. Note:   There is some discrepancy between the family Bible and later records as to his birthdate. Later records state 1825 as the year while the Bible has 1828. However, I have not seen the Bible itself, and on the tape made by Florence MacKenzie, there seemed to be some doubt as to whether it was 1825 or 1828. Also, whether or not he was actually born in Nova Scotia or perhaps in Scotland is uncertain at this point.
