a. Note:   orn July 2, 1957, at Danville, Ill., the son of Jack Layton and Charline Massey Allen.
 He graduated from Covington High School in 1975. He was a former resident of Covington and Cayuga, moving to Cloverdale in 2005. Ed was a certified master scale technician employed in Terre Haute for 30 years. Ed loved his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, especially ducks and turkeys, fishing and raising animals. He was an avid movie watcher and Colts fan.
 Ed married Connie L. Thompson April 14, 1984, at Catlin, Ill., and she survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Stacy R. Allen of Rochester, N.Y.; his mother, Charline Allen of Covington; a sister, Ann Nettles and husband Rob of Covington; a brother, Tom Allen and wife Chris of Fishers, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. His father, Jack Allen and a nephew, Nathan Allen preceded him in death.
 Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. EDT Friday, at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, April 2, 2011, with Robert Denhart officiating. Cremation will follow, with private burial of ashes in Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date. Memorials requested to Covington Community Foundation for the Nathan Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
