Continued:   In the Federal Census taken on 18 June 1900, New Grand Chain, PulaskiCo., IL, Enix Mason was listed as eleven years of age, working as aservant in the home of Doty Monroe, a 52 year old physician in thecity. Enix was listed as at school and that he had attended schoolduring the past six months of the year but was unable to read orwrite. Dr. Monroe's family included his wife, Nancy Ann, age 47, ason, John M., age 23, married for one year and teaching school;daughter-in-law Mary A., age 23, grandson Sylvester M. age 2/12th's,born in Texas, and daughter Clara, age 17. Enix' date of birth wasSeptember 1888, State of Illinois and his parent's places of birthwere listed as Tennessee. The Monroe family, with the exception ofthe grandson, were all born in the State of Illinois.
  Enix Henry Mason, SN2817805 served as a private in the U.S. Armyduring World War I with Company D, 366th Infantry, 92nd Division from28 Apr 1918 through 24 Mar 1919.
  From letters written to Velva Mae, on 14 Jun 1961, Enix, Sr. was apatient in the VA Hospital in Williamson Co., IL. Enix was havingproblems with his teeth and feet at the time.
  On 9 May 1963, Enix was in the hospital in Marion, IL. Sonny had cometo visit him and grandma Susie Lee had a nice garden.
  On 23 May 1963, Enix was again in the VA Hospital in Marion, ILexperiencing problems with an ulcer. He spoke of receiving five pintsof blood and told Velva Mae that Warren, Dewitt and Susie Lee hadvisited him there.
  In Dec 1965, Enix had left Cairo and was living in Maywood, IL withSonny and Nettie. He was trying to rent his house in Cairo. Enixspoke of baby sitting with Pamela and Derek while Sonny and Nettieworked. He said he was keeping house and cooking and seemed prettywell satisfied there.
  On 17 Nov 1965, Enix wrote Velva Mae that his sister had died in St.Louis. Enix's mother was still living at the time. Enix alsodiscussed the recent death of Charlie (Manley), whose place of deathis still being researched.
  Ruffin Funeral Home, Cairo, IL handled Enix' burial.
