Continued: Funeral Program: Derek Jerome Mason was the youngest of two childrenborn to the union of Enix Mason, Jr. and Nettie M. Mason in Chicago,IL.
He received his formal education at Emerson Elementary, Proviso EastHigh School in Maywood, IL and Triton Community College.
Derek received Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized intothe Christian faith, uniting with Canaan AME Church of Maywood, IL.Derek united with Broadview Missionary Baptist on 6 Nov 1994, underthe pastorage of Rev. Clarence W. Hopson, where he served faithfullyuntil his illness.
Derek began his employment at the early age of fifteen in the bankingindustry. He followed his love of providing service to others in thefield of catering large functions and social events. Derek lastserved as a representative of Provider Relations at United HealthCare. Throughout his career, he was also very active in numerouscommunity services, including Horizons, a human rights support groupand Community Response, a volunteer organization providing meals andcompanionship to Aides patients.
Derek was called to eternal rest by our Heavenly Father on Thursday,29 Oct 1998.
Rev. Marvin G. Parker, Assistant Pastor, Broadview Missionary BaptistChurch, gave the Eulogy.
Derek was listed as DOA at Westlake Hospital at 10:57 PM, 29 Oct 1998. The causes of death were listed as mycobacterium arum sepsis 6months; candida esophogititis, 2 years; and acquired immune deficiencysyndrome, 9 years.
