a. Continued:   Verna met George A.Henry, Sr. while attending school in Bragg City,MO. Verna later returned to Cairo, IL with her parents where she metand married Enix Henry Mason, Sr.
  Verna was very close to her brothers, Tallie and Warren and enjoyedsocializing with them. Verna was nicknamed "Coonie".
  There is a penny post card dated 10 Nov 1942 written by Verna to VelvaMae stating that she had "Arrived safely (in Toledo, OH) at 5:30 thisMon. eve., found all well. will write later; give my love to all",Verna Mason. Velva's address was Route 1, #22, Cairo, IL at the time.
  Juanita, Verna's daughter, recalled that during Thord's funeral inCairo, Verna, who had been in poor health, became distraught asThord's bier was being removed from the church and said "she would bethe next to go". Verna's death was the next to occur in the family.
  There is also a letter dated 23 Mar 1947 written by a friend at thehospital at 1101 Cedar Street by a friend for Verna who did not signtheir name. The friend was asking Velva to please come to visit Vernafor two or three weeks; that Verna was not feeling so well; had notbeen able to sit up in a week and had been confined to her bed. Vernapassed two weeks later.
  After Verna's death in 1947, Enix, Sr. maintained their home andreared their son, Enix, Jr., "Sonny".
  Verna was listed as a housewife. She died of Pulmonary Tuberculosisat 1:20 PM in the hospital TB Ward at 1101 Cedar Street, Cairo,Alexander County, IL. The hospital name was not listed on the deathcertificate. Verna's family was unable to locate her burial site inJune 1999. She had a family made headstone on her grave at one time.
