Continued: John Henry Banks graduated from Central High School in Hayti, MO onThursday, May 16th, 1940. It was the first commencement of the high school. There wereeight students in his class and Mr. C. M. Connor was the principal.Dr. Sherman D. Scruggs, President of Lincoln University, JeffersonCity, MO., gave the address. John Henry's sister, Marion OpheliaBanks was a member of the second graduating class at Central HighSchool on May 11, 1941. Newspaper Obituary: John Henry Banks; Ran Restaurants Here. John Henry Banks, a former restaurateur here, died Monday 18 Oct 1993at his home after suffering a heart attack. He was 75. Mr. Banks, of St. Louis, was the owner in the 1940's and 1950's ofthree Southern Kitchen restaurants in St. Louis. He turned thebusinesses over to his first wife, Frencella Hudson Banks. He movedto Chicago in 1969 (1954/1955) and returned to St. Louis in 1991. Mr. Banks was born in Luxora, AR. He attended Tuskegee Institute inTuskegee, AL. A funeral service will be at 9 AM Saturday at Austin A. LayneMortuary, 7239 West Florissant Avenue in Jennings. Visitation willfollow the service. His body will be cremated. He was married for 25 years to his second wife, Janet Mason Banks, whodied in 1977 of cancer. Among the survivors are five daughters: Collette Smith of Florissant,Patricia Johnson and Carla Banks, both of Chicago, Joann Wallace ofSeattle, and Jacqueline Eriksson of Hercules, CA.; two (*three) sons,Brian Banks of Chicago and Armose Zu-D'Ammon of North St. Louis Countyand * the late Karl Banks; two sisters, Tessie Washington of St. Louisand Marian Hunt of Washington, DC; a brother, Samuel Osborne Banks ofSt. Louis; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. *Omittedfrom obituary.
