Continued:   On 7 Oct 1896, Edgar was arraigned for carrying a concealed weapon andassault and wounding with intent to kill along with his brother Ford. Both were brought to trial on 16 Dec 1896 in the Circuit Court ofMississippi County Missouri. Edgar was acquitted of both crimes. Thevictim was not identified in the court proceedings.
On 12 Dec 1894, Edgar and Clara Allen were married by A. J. Ross,Police Magistrate, which was witnessed by Sidney B. Miller, CountyClerk, Alexander County, IL. Edgar's father, Frank Robert Morton, gave his consent by virtue of his "X", as Edgar was not quite 18 yearsof age.
A son, Albert Morton, was born of this union on 27 May 1895. In the1900 Federal Census, Albert and his mother Clara were living withClara's parents in Pulaski County, IL. Clara was registered under hermaiden name, Allen; son Albert was listed as a Morton. There is norecord of a divorce between Clara and Edgar to date.

He was renting his property and listedas the head. An aunt, Cynthy (Cynthia) Stanley, aged 55, widowed, born Jun 1845 in Missouri, was living with Edgar. Cynthy indicatedshe had two children who were living. She was listed as unable toread or write, could speak English, but had no occupation listed.Cynthy listed her parents' places of birth as Virginia. I believethis Cynthy is the niece of great-grandmother, Rebecca, of whomgreat-grandfather Frank Robert Morton became the legal guardian on 25Dec 1880 along with Radford and Eliza A. The names of her two livingchildren and the identity of their father requires additionalresearch. They probably appeared in the 1890 Census which wasdestroyed by fire.

Edgar said his marriage to Della was his second andDella's first. No records have been located to date documentingEdgar's two marriages.
