a. Continued:   From 17 July 1917 until 16 July 1918, Dewitt Jackson was in theprocess of divorcing a Callie Jackson in Charleston, MS. Co., MO. Thecase was continued several times and there was no record of thedivorce being granted in Charleston.
  According to the 1923 Mt. Vernon City Directory, Dewitt W. Jackson andViola, Lila's sister, lived at 721 Belle Street. Dewitt was employedat the Tie Plant (railroad ties). Robert Leslie Morton, Thord'sbrother, was also employed by this company at the time of his death.
  In the 1949 Mt. Vernon City Directory, Colored Residents, Dewitt waslisted as Pastor, Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church with Viola as hiswife.
  Dewitt W. Jackson died at Crossroads Community Hospital at 5:25 AM atthe age of 102. He had been a resident at Manor Nursing Home in Mt.Vernon and previously lived at 800 Bell Street across from his church. Dewitt served as Pastor of Pilgrim Rest MB Church, 721 Bell Streetthere. Dewitt, Lila, Viola, and Birdie all attended this church.
  The immediate cause of death was Cardiac Arrest; Coronary ArteryDisease and poorly controlled Diabetes Mellitus. Jackson FuneralHome, 1000 S. 7th St. in Mt Vernon handled his funeral.
