a. Note:   ! There has been some question of whether Peter's wife arrived in the United States or not . Some writers say she may have died at sea on the trip over , how they would know is not stated . Family tradition has it that she was an "Irish Lady of Rank" , whatever that means . No document has been discovered that would shed any light on this matter . However, by reasoning process and the approximate time of birth of the 4 sons of Peter 'the immigrant' Hairston , as well as a possible daughter , might lead one to make the assumption that she indeed did arrive here safely . Andrew , who we think now was the oldest son, was born about 1716 , and that had to be in Ireland/Scotland . Conceivably the other sons and daughters could have been born before they sailed for America and arrived about 1729, so at the very least , the youngest would have been about 9 years old . Whether Peter made the trip with the children minus a wife , might be suspect .
