Note: ! We have assigned this James to Richard and Catherine simply because all the facts fit here, there were no other Hairstons around at that time and unless we have made a gross error he belongs here. The 1910 Milam County Texas census shows that James and Martha had been married 39 years and they had 9 children and 5 were still alive. Another census shows that he was born in South Carolina, but we attribute this to a census error. Also the date of their marriage may be in dispute. There appears to be some dispute as well whether there was another marriage involved here, as on a later census there is a stepdaughter listed. We have the first 3 children of James and Mollie listed in 2 places, also with Martha Dodd[alias Walden].
