Note: ! Samuel was by and large the largest land owner of the 4 brothers . We still hold to the idea, in 1997, that he never married , for in his will he devised his estate to Andrew and after the death of Andrew to the children of Andrew and Robert Hairston . This would seem to indicate that he had never married or at least had no offsprings. We have never found any other indication that he had married. The specific bequest were to the three sons of his brother Robert , namely George , Peter and Samuel ; to Jenny Forbes, daughter of Andrew and wife of Alexander Forbes ; to Samuel Amyx the husband of Eleanor , another daughter of Andrew ; to his nephew Samuel Phillips , who we suspect was the son of a sister of the original 4 brothers , this same sister may have later married a man named Seldon and may have gone to Tennessee ; he also mentions a niece Jane Phillips in his will and this must have been a daughter of the sister of the original 4 brothers . Samuel was a lieutenant of Militia in Bedford County and served as a member of the House of Burgesses several terms .
