a. Note:   ! We think he may have had 3 wives or at least 2, first most likely was Elizabeth, then either Deborah or/and Lydia. He had a land grant in Caswell county North Carolina in 1784 and appeared on several state census, notably 1787 census , so he must have been a resident in that area. Further, shortly after 1787 he puts his land up for sale and court records in Caswell County attest to these proceedings. These proceedings last well into 1796 before the land is disposed of and various letters of appointment/instuctions from him to the court are retained in these court records. From Caswell County he goes into Pendleton County South Carolina and stays there til shortly before the 1800 census is taken .
