Note: Steven Schenk writes: " She was a lovely person. Her father expected my grandfather, the eldest son, to join the army and have a military career, but my grandfather rebelled, wanting to be an artist. His father forced him to go to war, and in protest, Johanna declared that if her brother had to go, she would go too. She became a nurse, contracted spinal menengitis in the hospital, and died young. Her father never forgave himself for this, and became deeply religious after this incident. The Viennese Schenks have remained deeply Catholic."
