a. Note:   1. Copied from the Nicholas Chronicle of 14 Sep 1895: "DEATH OF JAMES CAMPBELL. It is with sadness that we are called on to chronicle the death of our young friend, Mr. James Campbell, which occurred at his home at Kesslers X Lanes on Saturday morning, Sept. 7th. The death of this kind and able young man has cast a gloom over our entire neighborhood. Very vew young men of our acquaintance had more friends than he had. He was steady, quite firm and very industrious -- and stood as high in the estimation of the people as any young man in the vicinity. For three weeks he suffered with the fever, but during all that time there was heard no words of complaint, but he was [paitent] and kind to all his friends. I've never seen any one receive better attention than he did. His affectionate sister's watched his bedside day and night as did also his anxious father and mother and brother. All that the physicians and other loving hands could do was done, but to no avail. The Lord had called and our young friend must go. A short time before he died he called his father and mother and brother and sisters to his bedside and told them to meet him in the better land, and said, "Tell all my young friends to meet me in heaven." While we all shall miss him, none will be so lonely as the family of which he was a favorite member. He was in his 23rd year and a short time ago had, as far as we could see, a bright prospect for a long and prosperous life. But we trust he has gone where there is "rest, sweet rest" in the land of everlasting bliss. At 10 o'clock on Sunday, the burial services were conducted by Rev. L.J. Huffman, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery near Zoar church. Seldom is such a large crowd of people ever seen attend a burial here as the one that was present Sunday, which shows the high esteem in which young Mr. Campbell was held by our people. We tender to this bereaved family our profound sympathy in this their dark days of affliction. H.P.R. Kesslers X Lanes, W.Va September 11, 1895
