a. Note:   1. Loren graduated from Prairie Hill High School in 1916 and he was the president of his graduating class. 2. He received a Teachers Certificate for the Missouri Public Schools Aug 1, 1915 after completing three years of high school studies. 3. He graduated from Central College in Fayette, MO in 1921 with a bachelor's degree. Also, he attended the University of Missouri and the University of Michigan. 4. While he was a student at Central, Loren enlisted (1 Oct 1918) in the U.S. Army, Student Army Corps. He was discharged as a private, U.S. Army in Dec 1918. His service number is 5-272-013. Both enlistment and discharge were at Fayette, MO. 5. Loren and Ruth were married by a Methodist minister, Herman Henry Lutzow, a college friend, and life-long friend. 6. In 1922 Loren became a partner (with Emmett S. Finley) and business manager of the B.E. Hicken Sod-Tor-Lite Co. in Prairie Hill, MO. The partners held a 60% interest in the company; the company manufactured metal cutting and welding equipment. The partnership was dissolved 2 Jan 1923. 7. According to an envelope postmarked 1923 Loren and Ruth were living in Fayette, MO at that time. 8. Bell Tele. Co. 1 Jan 1924 according to his company work record. 1925, 5696 Kingshighway; "student" at S.W. Bell Tele. Co. 1926, clerk, S.W. Bell Tele. Co. 1927, 5737 Kingsbury Place, supervisor, S.W. Bell Tele. Co. 1930, 5737 Kingsbury Place. 1931, 6257 Cabanne Ave., University City, MO. 1932, Kirkwood, MO. 1934, 2003 Alameda (Maplewood, MO). 1935, 7328 Flora (Maplewood, MO). 1936, 7311 Richmond Place (Maplewood, MO). 1938, 7317 Richmond Place (Maplewood, MO). 1953, 7037 Dale Ave., St. Louis, MO. 9. At the time of his death, Loren was a General Commercial Results Supervisor with S.W. Bell Tele. Co. where he had worked for 37 years. 10. His hobbies were gardening, chess (especially chess by mail with players in different parts of the country who also worked for the Bell Tele. Co.) and working with boy scouts as a merit badge consular. 11. Loren was a mason; 1929, Fayette, MO lodge. 12. In 1932 he and Ruth purchased a 120 acre farm in Audrain county, MO where Ruth's parents, Octave and Frances Ellis, lived their lives. The location of this farm is: E1/2 of the NWl/4 and the NE1/4 of the SE1/4 of Sec 17 T51 R6W. In 1927 this farm had been purchased by L.A. and Willa Barnes but they defaulted on their note and the farm was next purchased on 12 Feb 1932 by G.C. Ferguson for $850. Loren and Ruth purchased the farm from G.C. and Mabel Ferguson on 9 Apr 1932 for $2100. Octave and Frances Ellis lived on the farm until after Octave's death when the farm was sold to Ruth's brother, Francis Ellis, on 3 Apr 1961. The land description may be found in the Audrain County, MO Deed Book 190, page 66. 13. Ruth Brockman was also a gardner; she was was active as a worker at the Henry Shaw home in the MO Botanical Garden (Shaw's Garden) and held active memberships in conservation and garden clubs in St. Louis and Missouri. 14. Copied from the Post Dispatch of 16 May 1961: "L.T. BROCKMAN FUNERAL; TELEPHONE SUPERVISOR Funeral services for Loren T. Brockman, supervisor at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., and horticultural expert, will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Lupton undertaking establishment, 7233 Delmar boulevard, University City. Cremation will follow. Mr. Brockman, 63 years old, died of a heart ailment yesterday at St. John's Hospital. An employe of Southwestern Bell since 1924, he was commercial results supervisor for the company at the time of his death. His home was at 7037 Dale avenue. He was president of the Men's Regional Garden Club Council of Greater St. Louis; a director of the St. Louis Horticultural Society, treasurer of the St. Louis Daffodil Society and past president of the Men's Garden Club of Richmond Heights. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Mrs. William G. Bowman, of St. Louis; a son, Ellis R. Brockman, of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Gray Wright, of Salisbury, Mo., and a brother, Clarence Brockman, of Keytesville, Mo." 15. Copied from the Globe-Democrat of 16 May 1961: "L.T. Brockman Dies, Phone Firm Official Loren T. Brockman, 63, an employe of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 37 years, died Monday of a heart attack at St. John's Hospital. Mr. Brockman, who lived at 7037 Dale ave., had been commercial results supervisor for the company for the past 10 years and had held various other positions in the commercial and personnel divisions. An enthusiastic home gardener, he was president of the St. Louis regional Men's Garden Club Council, treasurer of the St. Louis Daffodil Society, a director of the St. Louis Horticulture Society and past president of the Men's Garden Club of Richmond Heights. He also had been active in Boy Scout work, serving for eight years as a merit badge interviewer, and had served on the official board of Grace Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Ellis Brockman; a daughter, Mrs. William G. Bowman, of University City; a son, Ellis R. Brockman, a graduate student at the University of Missouri; a sister, Mrs. Gray Wright, Salisbury, Mo., and a brother, Clarence Brockman, Keytesville, Mo. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday at Lupton Chapel, 7233 Delmar bl., University City. Interment will be in Mexico, Mo." 16. Copied from the Mexico Evening Ledger of 16 May 1961: "Loren Brockman, 63, Dies Funeral services for Loren T. Brockman, 63, of St. Louis will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Lupton's Chapel in that city. Graveside services will be held here in East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Brockman died at 6 a.m. Monday at St. John's Hospital in St. Louis after a short illness. Death was caused by a heart condition. Born in Prairie Hill, Mo. on Jan. 2, 1898, he was the son of Steven and Gertrude Hoyle Brockman. A property owner in Audrain County, Mr. Brockman was a member of the board of stewards of the Grace Methodist Church in St. Louis. A gardening enthusiast, Mr. Brockman was president of the Regional Council of Men's Garden Club of Greater St. Louis, a past president of Richmond Heights Garden Club, treasurer of the St. Louis Daffodil Society and a member of the board of directors of the St. Louis Horticulture Society. He was also a reviewer for merit (badges) of citizenship and safety (for) the Boy Scouts of St. Louis. For the past 37 years, he had been employed as commercial results supervisor for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Ruth Ellis, of Audrain County; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ellen Bowman of St. Louis; a son, Ellis Brockman, whose wife is a member of the Mexico public school faculty; a brother, Clarence Brockman of Keytesville; and a sister, Mrs. Gray Wright of Salisbury.
