Note: 1. Copied from the 11 Jan 1925 Nicholas Chronicle: "AGED MAN AND SISTER BURNED TO DEATH Joe Campbell and his sister, Miss Fanny Campbell, of Clifty, Fayette county, were burned to death last Wednesday afternoon. They were missed from their homes by relatives and an immediate search was made. Their bodies were found a short distance from the home. The body of Mr. Campbell was found hanging across a fence badly burned. A few yards away the body of his sister, also badly charred and lifeless. Nothing was known of the tragic end of these old people but it is presumed, from circumstances, that Mr. Campbell had been burning some trash near where his body was found. The table in the house had been prepared for dinner and it is thought that his sister had prepared the meal and when he had failed to come had gone out to call him. Conditions of her clothing and location of body and other indications pointed to the fact that she had found her brother and started to help him [but] had caught fire herself. Mr. Campbell was about 80 years of age and Miss Campbell a few years younger. They were respected citizens of that section." 2. He never married.
