Copied from the Nicholas Chronicle of 19 Mar 1914: "Washington Groves, of Wilderness district, one of the prominent and successful farmers and stock men of our county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mason McClung, near Leivasy Monday. Mr. Groves was between 75 and 80 years of age and had been prominent in the business affairs of the county for many years." 5. Copied from the 26 Mar 1914 issue of the Nicholas Chronicle: "We are sorry to report the death of Washington Groves which occurred at the home of Mason McClung on Grassy Creek early last week. He was buried at Jordan Chapel, in Wilderness district, near his old home. He and I were raised as boys together and I had a warm feeling for him. He was like all the rest of mankind and, no doubt, had his faults, but we hope and believe that his spirit is transplanted in the garden of paradise -- the eden of happiness -- redeemed, perfected and made glorious in the divine image of Him who hath said, "I am the way, the truth and the life."
