Note: 1. Abraham and Mary Ellis are buried on their farm in Callaway county, MO. This land is located in the SW quarter of Sec 24. 2. The name of Abraham's father has not been determined but his mother is believed to been named Sarah. 3. Abraham served in the War of 1812. He was a private in Captain John E. Allen's Company of Infantry Militia (also was listed on a muster roll of a company of Mounted Militia of the Territory of Missouri): Rank: private Commencement of Service: 4 Aug 1814 - 1 Oct 1814 (1 month, 29 days). Place of Residence: St. Louis County, MO. Pay per Month: $8.00. Amount of Pay: $15.04. Distance from St. Louis to Place of Residence: 16 miles. Allowance for horses per day: Traveling Pay: $50.02. Abraham's first wife, Barbara Lee, died in St. Louis co., MO after the birth of their daughter, Mary Alice in 1818. 5. The location of his marriage to Mary Roberts was given as Hawkins co., TN by Mary in the data she submitted to the Department of (the) Interior in "Washington City" to support her widow's claim for bounty land based on the War of 1812 service rendered by Abraham Ellis. 6. Abraham Ellis was listed with the names of men who voted in the first election held in Callaway co., MO...1822...he was living in Round Prairie Township. (Hist. Callaway co., MO, 1884). 7. Abraham Ellis was listed on the Callaway co., MO Tax List of 1823. His brother, Peter, was also listed but as a non-resident (he was residing in Boone co., MO) at that time. 8. From page 986 of Campbell's Gazateer: "at an early day, south of Millersburg, in the western part of the county, lived Abraham Ellis, and near his residence was a f amous camp ground that wittnessed the early struggles and triumps of Methodism. Rev. Andrew Monroe was among the pioneer preachers of that denomination." 9. This land was later sold after Abraham's death. to Hiram K. Inman, Abraham's son-in-law, on 14 May 1849, 11. From the biographical sketch of Abraham's son, John Ellis, on page 738 in the History of Audrain County, MO (1884): "Abraham Ellis, was a native of Virginia. When he was a boy the family removed to East Tennessee, and afterwards to St. Louis county, Missouri, when the Indian and the bear were still in the country. A young man, he enlisted with Capt. McAllister in the Canadian War, as it was called, and served until the triumph of Jackson at New Orleans, and the restoration of peace. He married Miss Mary Truesdale and came to Callaway county in 1818. He died there in 1848 at the age of sixty- three. He was twice married, Mr. Ellis' mother being his second wife.
