Note: 1. His father, Ferdinand L. Roda was born 30 Jan 1851 and died 23 Oct 1930; he is buried in the Russell Cemetery. His mother, Minnie Stielow, was born on 7 Sep 1860 and she died 1 Jul 1929; she is also buried in the Russell Cemetery. 2. Copied from the 11 Mar 1977 issue of The Russell Daily News: "George W. Roda Paradise -- George W. Roda, 77, died Thursday night at Wesley Memorial Medical Center Wichita. He had been in failing health for several months and entered the hospital about two weeks ago. Born May 6, 1899, in Paradise township, he was married to the former Mary Ellis. She died Feb. 7, 1968. The family lived on a farm and were active in livestock production and farming for many years. Mr. Roda was not a member of any organizations. Survivors are a son, Larry, Hays; two brothers, Bill, Paradise, and Carl, Trenton, Mo.; and two grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, in Pohlman's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Pattie, Hays, officiating. Burial will be in the Russell Cemetery. A memorial in his name has been established with the American Cancer Society." 3. Copied from the funeral service obituary: "George Walter Roda George Walter Roda, son of Ferdinand and Minna (Stielow) Roda, was born May 6, 1899, in Paradise Township of Russell County, Kansas. His death occurred on March 10, 1977, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. His age was 77 years, 10 months and 4 days. George lived most of his life on the family ranch south of Paradise, Kansas. He received his basic education in the rural school near his home and later graduated from Russell High School. His early working life was filled with the many activities of the family ranch as a farmer and stockman. On November 25, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellis at Russell, Kansas, and this union was blessed with two children, Douglas and Larry. The family continued to make the ranch their home for some years before moving to Russell, and in the past several years George has been living at Hays with his son. For the past several months his health has been failing and he has been hospitalized for some period of time and was in the Wesley Medical Center for about two weeks before his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who died on February 7, 1968; one son, Douglas, July 31, 1962; and several sisters and brothers. Survivors include his son, Larry, of Hays, Kansas; two brothers, Carl Roda, of Trenton, Missouri, and Bill Roda of Paradise, Kansas; two grandchildren, several other relatives and a host of friends."
