a. Note:   1. Copied from the Mexico Ledger of 15 Oct 1935: "DR. A.[W.] ELLIS, 60, DIES MONDAY Audrain Countian, Ill For Long Time, Succumbs -- Funeral Services At Berea Church Wednesday. Dr. A.W. Ellis, 60 years old, died at 9:30 o'clock Monday night at the Fulton hospital, where he had been ill for some time. Dr. Ellis was born 10 miles north of Mexico on November 23, 1874. He was graduated from the Mexico public schools and received a degree in 1901 from Washington University in St. Louis. He graduated in dentistry and practiced his profession, following his graduation, in Sherman, Texas. Surviving him are two brothers, O.F. Ellis of Laddonia, and Nolan D. Ellis, of Muskogee, Okla., a half sister, Mrs. W.H. Wallace of Mexico, and two half brothers, J.D. Ellis, and Ira J. Ellis, both of Muskogee, Okla., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Berea Church, north of Mexico, with burial in the Berea Cemetery. The Ledger joins the many family friends in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved." 2. Copied from the Mexico Intelligencer of 15 Oct 1935: "RITES FOR ARTHUR ELLIS TOMORROW Funeral Services to be Held at Berea Church -- Died Monday Night. Funeral services will be held at Berea Church north of Mexico Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 for Arthur Ellis, who died at Fulton at 9:30 Monday night. The funeral party will leave here at 1:00 from McPheeters Brothers funeral home. He was 61 years old, and was born November 21, 1874, in Audrain County, the son of Squire John and Elizabeth Ellis. He attended the schools here and graduated from the dental school at Washington University. He practiced at Sherman, Tex. He was a half-brother of Mrs. W.H. Wallace of Mexico, a brother of Octave Ellis of Audrain, and an uncle of Clyde and John Ellis of near Mexico. Many friends will join The Intelligencer in sympathy for members of the bereaved family." 3. Arthur Ellis was judged by the Audrain County Probate Court to be insane 1910 and Octave Ellis was appointed as his guardian. 4. His death was caused by a stomach cancer with secondary hemorrhage.
