Note: 1. Copied from the Mexico Intelligencer of 7 May 1913: "O.F. Ellis' residence and out buildings burned to the ground Wednesday evening, April 30. Perhaps half the furniture and fixtures of the house were saved, including the piano. Mr. Ellis carried $700 insurance on the house, a five room and two [poarch] structure, and $500 insurance was carried on contents. There was no insurance on the other buildings that burned. Mr. Ellis received $1160 insurance, or nearly full amount carried." 2. Copied from the Mexico Ledger of 8 May 1913: "O.F. Ellis' residence and other outbuildings in the yard burned to the ground Wednesday evening, April [23.] It was certainly a very fierce looking flame. Perhaps half the furniture and fixtures of ____ was saved including the piano. There was $700.00 insurance carried on the house and ____ on furnishings or contents. There was no insurance on other buildings that burned. Mr. Ellis received $1100.00 insurance or nearly full amount carried." "County News. The residence of Octave Ellis near Skinner and about fifteen miles northwest of Mexico, burned Wednesday night with all the household furnishings except a few which were taken from the front part of the house. The meat house with all the meat was burned and the chicken house and some of the chickens. The fire started about supper time and gained such headway that it could not be checked. He will plaster and paint it this week. A modern water system has been put in and with a hot air furnace and acetyline lights he will have a modern, up-to-date domicile just in the suburbs of Skinner." 5. Ellis Dies At Hospital Octave F. Ellis, 82, a prominent farmer and stockman of south of Laddonia, died at Audrain Hospital at 7:15 this morning. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home here. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Ellis, the youngest of 13 children of John W. and Elizabeth Ann Ellis, was born on the family homestead near Molino in Audrain County on Sept. 6, 1878. On May 15, 1897, he was married to the former Miss Frances Canterbury, who survives. They lived in the Skinner neighborhood until 1932 when they moved to their present home. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. George (Mary) Roda of Russell, Kan., Mrs. R.L. (Mildred) McDaniel of Sunray, Tex., Mrs. Loren T. (Ruth) Brockman of St. Louis; three sons, Payne, Alfred and Francis Ellis, all of Laddonia; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One son, Arthur Ellis, preceded him in death in 1956. Mr. Ellis joined the Mexico Methodist Church at an early age and later transferred his membership to Olivet Church. Ellis Laddonia, Mo. -- Funeral services for Octave F. Ellis, 82, were held at the Arnold Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon. Interment was in the East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Ellis died at the Audrain hospital Monday morning where he had been a patient for several weeks. He was a well known farmer and stockman and resided at his home south of Laddonia. Ellis obtained a mortgage of $5500 from the NW Mutual Life Insurance Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 27 Jul 1927. 108:516. Octave F.
