a. Note:   1. There exists a great deal of uncertainty about Mary's name. There is no definite proof that her name was Mary Robards or Mary Roberts. In Bryan and Rose, her name was given as Trussel/Truesdale and she was identified as "Mary Truesdale" on page 738 in the John Ellis biographical sketch in the 1884 History of Audrain County, MO. Whatever the case, I suspect that she, like Abraham, had previously married and she was Abraham's second wife. Perhaps she had been Mary Truesdale who had first married a Mr. Roberts and then secondly was married to Abraham Ellis. Based upon the Bible records of Amanda Ellis Bedsworth the name "Roberts" was clearly written and so that name will be used here. 2. John "Wilfully," a justice of the peace, married Abraham Ellis and Mary Roberts on 27 Aug 1818 in Hawkins co., TN. This statement came from the Widow's Application (Bounty Land Claim) which Mary made on the War of 1812 service by her husband, Abraham Ellis.
