Note: 1. Went to California about 1849-1850. 2. Early family notes compiled by members of the Ellis family indicate that James Ellis died in Dogtown, Calaveras co., CA. No town by this name exists on present day maps but there is a Dogtown Road in Calaveras county so, perhaps, there was a small town, no longer in existence, that was there in the 1850's.
