LIZZIE ELLIS DIES SATURDAY AT HOSPITAL Funeral Services for Well Known Women Are Held at Home of Son Clyde Ellis, Monday Mrs. Lizzie Ellis, prominent resident of this section, died Saturday night at the Audrain Hospital following a week's illness. However, she had been in ill health for the past few years, and death caused by a complication of ailments was not unexpected. She was 76 years old. Mrs. Ellis was a native of Vincennes, Ind., where she was born Nov. 20, 1853. She was formerly Miss Lizzie Trumbo and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Trumbo, moved to Monroe County a number of years ago. She was married in 1879 to John W. Ellis who died a number of years ago. Two sons, Clyde Ellis and John Ellis of near Molino, well known sheep and hog breeders, survive. She also leaves several sisters and brothers. Mrs. Ellis was a member of Olivet Church. Funeral services were held at 10:30 o'clock Monday morning at the home of Clyde Ellis. Burial was made in the Berea Cemetery." 3. Copied from the 19 Aug 1929 issue of the Mexico Ledger: "MRS. LIZZIE B. ELLIS DIED LATE SATURDAY NIGHT Funeral Services For Prominent Audrain Woman Conducted Monday Morning From Home of Son, Clyde Ellis, Rev. S.O. Borland Officiating. Mrs. Lizzie B. Ellis, widow of the late John Ellis, and a prominent Audrain County resident, of the Long Branch community in north Audrain County, died at midnight Saturday after a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted from the Clyde Ellis home at 10:30 o'clock Monday morning. Rev. S.O. Borland, pastor of the Olivet Church, of which she was a devout member, officiating. Burial followed at the Berea Cemetery near the home. Mrs. Ellis, formerly Miss Elizabeth Baker Trumble, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Harvey Trumble, was born at Vincennes, Indiana, on Nov. 20, 1853, nearly 76 years ago. She was married to John W. Ellis in February, 1878, and to them two sons were born, Clyde and John, who survive. Her husband died on Feb. 7, 1907. Mrs. Ellis united with the M.E. Church, South, in 1879, and had been a devout member of that faith for the past fifty years. A large number of persons attended the funeral, and there were many beautiful flowers. The pallbearers: Harvey Powell, Thod. Boulware, Frank Weinand, Homer Baker, Sam Brown and Walter Henderson. She was a splendid Christian character, and was widely and favorably known, having a large circle of friends.
