ELLIS DIES FRIDAY AFTER ILLNESS Funeral Services Sunday for Prominent Audrain Stockman John William Ellis, prominent retired farmer and stockman, died at the Audrain Hospital at 6:30 a.m. following an extended illness. Mr. Ellis was born on the family farm northwest of Molino Oct. 5, 1888, the son of John William and Lizzie Trumbo Ellis. Early in life he united with the Olivet Methodist Church and served on the official board until he moved to Mexico. He was a member of the Mexico Methodist Church. Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife the former Mary Anna Moore, two children, John W. Ellis III, Jacksonville, Ill., and Mrs. Parks Stillwell, Los Angeles, Calif. Five grand-children, Anna Catherine, John and Charles Ellis, Kathleen and Richard Stillwell, one brother, Clyde W. Ellis of Molino. Mr. Ellis was graduated from the Mexico High School and attended Central College in Fayette. He was one of Audrain County's largest land owners and was nationally known as a Rambouillet sheep breeder. He judged many sheep shows throughout the nation and was president of the Missouri Wool Growers Association. He had served as president of the National Rambouillet Breeder Association. Under the administration of Governor Forrest Donnell, he was state commisioner of agriculture. He Had been a member of the Audrain Hospital board of trustees since 1952. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Arnold funeral home with the Rev. David K. Pegues, pastor of the Mexico Methodist Church, officiating followed by interment in East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sam Rowe, Jr., Arthur Rowe, Robert Rowe, William Latta, Joseph Jones and George Tilden. Honorary pallbearers will be J.W. Buffington, O.W. Martin, Linwood Alvis, Walter M. Barnes, Marion Boulware, Raymond Jackson, Col. C.R. Stribling, Walter Staley, Elmer McGee, Sr., Charles Smith, C.M. Fox and A.F. Playter and J.N. Livingston." 3. Copied from the Mexico Ledger of 7 Jul 1956: "Today's Editorial---John Ellis, County and State Leader The late John Ellis, one of Audrain County's leading citizens, gave freely of his time for the best interest of his county and state. One of Little Dixie's prominent Republicans, he served as Missouri's Commissioner of Agriculture under Governor Forest Donnell. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Audrain County Hospital Board. With his brother Clyde Ellis he achieved national attention as breed- ers of fine livestock. They won in competition in some of the largest shows in the nation. Mr. Ellis was active in religious circles as he was in public affairs. His interest and wholehearted participation in these fields will be greatly missed." 4. Copied from the Mexico Ledger of 10 Jul 1956: "Funeral services for John W. Among those here for the service were Mr. and Mrs. John W. Ellis, a son and daughter-in-law, and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. William, Hodson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harvill. Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Bishop, Victor Williams and James Dry of Jackson- ville, Ill., Dell Miles of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Stapleton Bodine and Mrs. M.S. Bodine of Jefferson City. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Bremmer and Mr. and Mrs. George Tilden of St. Louis; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jones of McPherson, Kan; Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Byram of Joplin; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Douglas of Columbia and Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Dawson, Mrs. Ray Delaney, Jack Pearl and Roy Power of Paris. A daughter, Mrs. Park Stillwell, who had been at her father's bedside for the past week, left Thursday for her home in Los Angeles, Calif."
