Note: 1. In 1910 he was a grocery salesman in Mexico, MO. In 1920 he resided in Mexico, MO and was doing clerical work with a brick plant. In 1930 he was identified as a "commercial traveler" in Houston, TX. 2. In 1935 he was in Atlanta, GA; he then moved to Jacksonville, FL. He was a FL-GA representative for the A.P. Green Firebrick Co. 3. His wife, Anna Marie, had been married, and had two children, before she married Joseph C. Ellis. P.J. Null, Jr. stated that she had been the mother of three children. Anyway, J. Clanton Ellis and Marie did not have any children in their marriage. 4. The family home was at 3116 Herschel Street in Jacksonville, FL. 5. Copied from the Florida Times-Union of 23 Jun 1943: "Death Takes J.C. Ellis Heart Attack Fatal to Business Man. J. Clanton Ellis, 54, of 3116 Herschel Street, prominent Jacksonville business man and civic leader, died in Lakeland early yesterday morning following a heart attack. A native of Mexico, Mo., Mr. Ellis came here 25 years ago from Atlanta. He was active in the Jacksonville Gun Club, serving as manager, treasurer and member of the board of directors, and was an air raid warden in Precinct 15-A. For 25 years Mr. Ellis was connected with the A.P. Green Fire Brick Company and recently was named Florida and Georgia representative of the company. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Marie Ellis; his mother, Mrs. Nellie Ellis, Mexico, Mo.; two daughters, the Misses Katherine and Evelyn Ellis; a son, Robert Ellis of Spokane, Wash., and a sister, Mrs. P.N.
