a. Note:   History of Grantville Kansas 1854-1976 - Written by Bessie Jones Gamlowski Thomas Jefferson Brannon was born August 14, 1847 in Bartholomew Co. Indiana. During the Rebellion, (Civil War) he enlisted in Co. H-153 of the Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He served from February 1865 to May 11, 1865, when he was discharged on an accident disability.
  Thomas' brother David came to Jefferson Co. Kansa where he started to work at the saw mill of Gabriel Penn Clark. David wrote to Thomas asking him to come to Kansas for they needed helped at the saw mill. He did so and started to work on April 23, 1873.
  Mr. Clark had several daughters, Louisa Ellender, was to Thomas' way of thinking, the prettiest and most desirable. He began to court her and they were married within a few months. Louisa bora Thomas six children: John Jennings, May 20, 1875; Ellsworth (Colonel), October 20, 1876K Oscar (Bud), January 20, 1879: James Madison, December 18, 1882: Fannie Ellender and Annie Louisa, October 24, 1883. Soon after the twins' birth, the Brannan moved to Missouri. Louisa didn't seem to regain her strength after their birth and she died on August 4, 1884 and is buried in Eureka Springs. Fannie died soon after her mother. Thomas brought Annie to her Grandmother Clark to raise. He took the boys and they went to Oklahoma to live. The boys all married and settled there. During the Depression, Ellsworth and his family migrated to California.
  Anna Louisa, my mother, married my father Charles Edward Jones, August 11, 1902. He was the son of Charles Allen Jones and Marie Ellender Murphy Jones. to them, six children were born Charles Leonard, August 31, 1903; Bessie Nell, January 23, 1905; Raymond Edward, March 16, 1907; Mabel Bernice, May 3, 1908; Sarah Ellender, April 17, 1911; and Harwin Eugene, September 4, 1913.
  a note from Gabirel Penn Clark, account book: stated Thomas Jefferson Brannan commenced work April 23, 1873. and shortly thereafter Louisa Ellender Clark married Thomas. Although Louisa died when she was 22 years old, her children who survived her were: Annie (who married Ed Jones), John Ellsworth and Oscar. All of the children except Annie later made their homes in Oklahoma.
