  Ulysses S. BRANNEN was born near Elliston, Indiana 6 Jun 1902. He tried to join the army at Kokomo Ind. but was rejected because he was underage. However, by the time he reached Great Falls, Montana, he was "old enough" and was accepted for service. He was assigned to Co. B 10th battery, 20th Regiment Engineers, Spokane, Washington. Special advanced work was reeceived at the American University, Washington D.C. and in March 1918, he was ordered to France.
