Note: 1. Copied from Miller County Obituaries: (Miller County Autogram, 28 Mar 1940) "John S. Brockman died Sunday at age of 76 years. Pioneer Miller county farmer had been in ill health for several years. John S. Brockman, pioneer Miller county farmer, passed away at the State hospital in Fulton Sunday, March 24, at the age of 76 years. Mr. Brockman had been in failing health for some time and had been a patient in the state hospital for seveal years. Mr. Brockman began his farming career near Etterville when a a young man. Fifty years ago he moved with his family to a farm near Brockman Ford, where his children were raised. They lived in that vicinity until eleven years ago, when they purchased a small place one-fourth mile east of Eugene. After the death of his wife, Mr. Brockman, his health failing, made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ilde Leuthen, at Olean and with his [son] Stanley in Tuscumbia. John S. Brockman, the son of John Brockman and his wife Pauline, was born in Miller County November 6, 1864, and died Sunday, March 24, 1940, being at the time of his death 76 years, 4 months and 18 days of age. He was married October 23, 1883 to Martha Ann McFall. To this union nine children were born. Five of the children: Mrs. Bill (Lena) Jolly, Dewey Brockman, Mrs. Charlie (Nora) Carrender, Opal Brockman and Herbert Brockman, preceded the father in death. The wife and mother passed away September 4, 1938. Mr. Brockman is survived by four children: Mrs. Ilde (Gertha) Leuthen of Olean, William F. Brockman of Eugene, Clarence Brockman of Eldon and Stanley Brockman of Tuscumbia; a number of grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Brockman followed the farming trade all his life. He was well respected and like[d] by everyone who came to know him. He became a member of the Baptist church early in life and lived a devoted Christian life. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Tuscumbia Christian Church, conducted by Rev. A.L. Alexander, pastor of the Eldon Christian Church. Interment was in the Tuscumbia cemetery under the direction of the Philipps Funeral home of Eldon." 2. The above obituary leads one to believe that John S. Brockman was a son of John E. Brockman but a review of certain dates proves that this relationship is impossible. John E. Brockman died 12 Feb 1862 and John S. Brockman was born on 6 Nov 1864 (1863 according to his death certificate). These dates indicate that John S. was the son of Paulina and someone else who is unknown at this time. Also, according to the 1900 Miller co., MO census the father of John S. was shown to have his nativity in KY, not MO. Thanks must be given to Cheryl Santos for bringing this "problem" to my attention.
