 Red lived with a woman with a wooden leg. Her name was Opal Jackson. When Red did not want her to follow him. He would hide her wooden leg or take it with him.

He went into the Army Sept 26, and got out Apr 20, 1946 he was living on Boyce St. they had a going away party. Ruby was married to Alsie. He ran under a truck and broke his leg riding a motorcycle. That is how he got out of the army. Uncle Shorty was drafted while Red was in the army. But his mom got him out claiming he was the last son left at home.
 1951* He married Beverly Jean Turney on Feb 4.
 1956* He had TB and went to Bandara or Kerrville, Tx to a VA Hospital for treatment. Everyone went to visit him, they took pictures.
 1959* He married Jimmy Lee Shanks on June 26. In 1961 Houston City Dir-lived w/ Jimmy L h1814 Berry Rd apt 2** not listed on anything before that year.

 1976 Apr 19, Houston Chronicle Sec 4 pg 25"Family argument ends in Slaying" A laborer says he shot and killed his stepfather after the stepfather tried to shoot him with a shotgun.Joseph Leigh Fulk, 19, of 1409 Walton, said he shot Elbert Henry Echols Jr., 49. an taxi driver, at 9:20pm Sunday. Said that Echols had been living in a van in front of their house for 9 months, had repeatedly threatened person with a shotgun. Earlier Sunday he had ripped speakers from a radio in the house and threatened Fulk's younger brother, Larry, with the shotgun. Sunday night Echols was loading his shotgun in the van and Fulk got his own shotgun and went onto the roof of the house. Fulk shouted to Echols who fired at Fulk. Fulk fired back.
 1976 Apr 20 Houston Post Sec/19C pg 1"Killing to e referred to grand jury" The shooting death of Elbert Henry Echols Jr., 49, of the 1400 block of Walton will be referred to the grand jury without charges. Echols died of gunshot wounds to the stomach at 10:45pm Sunday at Ben Taub Hospital after the 9:20pm shooting. Joseph Leigh Fulk, 22, of the Walton address said Echols fired at him with a shotgun before the stepson returned fire with another shotgun from the roof of the house.
 1976 Sept 21 Autopsy Shotgun wounds of abdomen and left leg. 2. Gunshot wounds of right wrist, through and through, and of right chest. 3. Fibrocaseous and calcified granulomas, tuberculosi of right lung and fibrous pleural adhesions. The direction of the shotgun blast was basically from front toward the back and from left toward right, with a pellet entering the abdomen causing massive marked hemoperitoneum. The gunshot wound of the right chest went from front to back. No bullet was recovered. It lacerated the right lung.OPINION it is our opinion that the decedent, Elbert Henry Echols Jr., came to his death as a result of shotgun wounds of abdomen and left leg. Homicide. Was 69 inches in length and weighting 129 pounds. He had Brown hair and brown eyes.On the lateral aspect of the right upper arm, there was a tattoo of a four leaf clover, under with was the name "JIM DANDY" Beneath this and somewhat above the elbow, laterally, there was a tattoo that could not be determined. There was an identification band around the right wrist. There was a gold ring with a brown stone on the ring finger of the right hand. On thelateral aspect of the left upper arm, there was a tattoo of a bird.There were indetification bands around the left wrist.
