John and Mary (Little) Woods, natives of Ireland, who came to America while in childhood, were reared in Pennsylvania(Allegheny Co.), where they were married and resided till the spring of 1817, when they removed to Indiana and settled in Ohio County, where Mr. Woods entered 160 acres of forest land, which he cleared up and on which his son William now lives. He died in 1837, aged fifty-four years. His widow survived until 1865 and died, aged seventy-seven years. I think the stones were misread as the family says that John Woods died in 1837 at age of 54 years. It should read; 27 Dec 1783 to 9 Aug 1837. 3. Recorded 12th May A.D.1837 John Woods to Joseph Woods Know all me by these presents that I, John Woods formerly of Allegheny County, in the State of Pennsylvania but now of Deerborn(sic) County and the state of Indiana for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have made ordained, constituted and appointed and by these presents, made ordained, constituted and appoint my trusty friend James Woods of the County of Deerborn (sic) in the State of Indiana to being true and lawful attorney for me and in my name to ask, demand,re- ceive receipt for and if necessary to sue for and recover all moneys coming to me, or to which I may be entitled to from the estate of my deceased Father, James Woods formerly of Allegheny County in the said State of Pennsylvania which moneys are suppose to be in the hands of the administrators of the estate of said James Woods deceased. I hereby authorize and empower my said attorney James Woods to take all money for me and in my name and to do and perform all manner of acts in or about the recovering and receipting for my dividend or share of the aforesaid money and receiving the same as fully, completely, amply and absolutely as I myself could or might legally do were I personally present at the doing thereof and for this purpose one or more attorneys under him to make constitute and appoint and generally to do and perform all manner of acts for me and in my name as I could were I present personally at the doing thereof hereby ratifying,confirming and allowing whatsoever my said Attorney or his substitute may do for me in the proceedings.
