"Mrs. Eliza J.Lee, mother of Mrs. Henry Turner,died at her daugh- ters home in Worthen Township Thursday morning Aug.8th,aged 77 years, 2 months and 7 days. The visit of the death angel was not unexpected as the deceased had been ill since June from heart desease with other complications. Her sons,Bert and Arthur,her daughter Mary and her sister,Mrs.Gifford were present at her bedside at the last. Eliza J.Woods,daughter of V.C. and Mary Woods,was born near Rising Sun,Indiana,June 1,1841. She moved with her parents to Iowa at the age of 11 years. In the year 1860 she was united in marriage to Sylvester Turner. To this union was born a son, Louis E.,who resides on the James river in Beulah Township. The husband died of yellow fever while serving in the Union army during the Civil War,leaving to the mother the care of the infant son. She kept a milliner and dressmaking shop and cared for her son for seven years when she was united in marriage to William H.Lee. Mr.and Mrs.Lee moved to Yankton Dakota Territory in 1874 and three years later filed a claim, the farm occupied at present by Charles King, and it made their home for many years. Six children were born to them. Two died in infancy,Frank G.Lee of Iowa,James H.Lee of Sioux Falls,Henry A.Lee of Milltown and Mrs.Mary F.Turner survive their mother. Mr.Lee departed this life March 9,1899 and Mrs. Lee was again left to care for her family which she did until the marriage of her daughter when she broke up house keeping and made her daughter's home her home also. She had been a member of the M.E.Church for 25 years living a con- sistant Christian life, being a loving mother and faithful friend. She was a woman who nobly did her duty and made the best of many hard- ships of pioneer life. She is also survived by her three sisters; Mrs.C.C.Gifford of Beldon, Nebr.,Mrs.Margaret Black and Mrs.Minerva Maynes of Kingfisher,Okla., and two brothers,Perry Woods of Marne,Iowa and Preston C.Woods of Rapid City.S.D. Funeral services were held Saturday,Aug.10 at the M.E.Church in Alexandria. Rev.Bromaghim officiated. Mr.and Mrs.L.A.Cathouth sang two selections at the house and the M.E.Choir sang at the church. Her sons Louie,Bert,Arthur,her son-in-law,Henry Turner and her grand- sons,Bruce Lee and Eldon Lee acted as bearers. Interment was made in Greenhill Cemetery beside her husband. Re- latives and friends from a distance present at the funeral service were; Mr.and Mrs.C.C.Gifford of Beldon,Nebr.,Bert Lee of Sioux Falls and Miss Lyons of Kennebec,S.D.
