He was a veterinarian.His great-grandson, Ronald C. Woods, tells two anecdotes: "He was a big man, standing 6' 6" tall and weighing 350 lbs. So one day he wasm driving his horse and buggy home and some highway ruffians ambushed him. They ordered him to lie down under the wagon while they plundered the contents of the wagon. During the plundering, Valentine put his hands on the axle of the wagon and bench-pressed it into the air, thieves and all. The ruffians were roundly startled and quickly fled the scene, leaving Valentine to continue on his way. "A second anecdote has to do with Volentine's 6-pocket vest. Valentine would point to the vest and say, 'In these 6 pockets I carry all the medicine needed to cure the ills of man.'
