Note:   Notes for Wolfgang Scheuerer: The names of Wolfgang Scheuerer and his wife Katharina Merkel are known because they were stated by their daughter Franziska Scheuerer at the time she got married in 1889 in New York. Franziska's parents' names were then written on the back of the Certificate of Marriage. That certificate has since been photographed.
  Wolfgang and Katharina had at least one other child, a son named Hans. That information comes from Franziska's obituary.
