a. Note:   Mary Elizabeth Brown's Mother died when she was very young and she was raised by her Uncle Henry Poff in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was 7 yrs of age when her Father Hamilton Brown died and then she and her sister lived with her Mother's brother Mr.James Henry Poff. It is reported that Mr. Poff and Gertrude, his wife, were very cruel to Mary and her siblings. Sometimes locking them in a cellar for days at a time. Mary's two male siblings died while in his care. Mary eventually was cared for by her grandmother Delia Mariah Albright.
